The White Cliffs of Dover

From the UK there are lots of different options for crossing the channel, of which there are 2 or 3 better choices. Obviously for speed of crossing the Channel Tunnel (www.eurotunnel.com) can not be beaten, but in some cases may not be the best option... Bordeaux is about 9 hours from Calais, so unless you slog the journey out in one stint, it will probably include an overnight stop. The same can be said for a ferry from Dover to Calais (www.poferries.com ), but you add an extra hour for the crossing. From personal experience it is best to take the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo (www.brittany-ferries.co.uk). This way you arrive in France after a good nights sleep, fresh for the 6 hour journey ahead.
